FAQs

  • SlideyCat is a term used to describe a baseball or softball young athlete that has fear and anxiety to slide. Our Pat. Pending Made in the USA product is designed by a 20+ year veteran coach who has used every tool out there to teach/coach sliding. The SlideyCat is padded on the bottom, and bright white sliding instructions on the top. The very best tool for teaching young athletes how to slide and tag

  • With proper supervision the SlideyCat Sliding Mat can be used starting from Tee Ball ages on up.

The only restriction: Do not wear metal cleats to slide with the SlideyCat!

  • The beautiful feature of the SlideyCat is that it can be used on the dirt, grass and indoors on a rubber gym floor. The SlideyCat is unique in that it has secure loops designed on each side of the mat to allow a coach to secure the mat to the dirt or grassy area to stabilize the sliding mat.

  • Yes! The SlideyCat Pat. Pending design has a wonderful padded bottom to help cushion the impact of the backside of the sliding athlete. This is the young athletes favorite part of the design. Edges of the plastic slide are protected with a soft nylon webbing to help prevent any scratches. The SlideyCat is also the only sliding tool that can secure to the surface which helps to prevent slide movement.

  • If you want to but not needed. Sliding is a dusty, dirty business and should be! Please know that the SlideyCat was tested for 4 years before the final product was produced. Many different generations of prototypes were tested. Each one of these prototypes were in the dirt, on the grass and used indoors.

  • Very important! When sliding on the SlideyCat, gear up like you would for a game. Baseball / Softball Pants, Long Athletic Socks, Rubber cleats, athletic shoes or socks.

Never wear metal cleats when sliding on the SlideyCat. This will puncture the mat.

  • The SlideyCat Sliding Mat is Designed for Teaching Young Athletes to Slide Feet First on Dirt, Grass or Rubber Indoor Floor surfaces. See Product Warnings/Cautions before using.

    Sliding Feet First Steps:

1). Backside/Caboose/Rear Down! Proper Feet First Sliding is on the Backside.

2). Hands/Arms Up! Super important to avoid injury. I teach beginner sliding by having the sliding athlete slide with tennis balls in their hands.

3). Figure #4: With one leg straight (It does not matter which leg) with a flexible ankle and toes of the straight leg pointed up. Tuck the opposite leg underneath the upper /thigh of the extended leg to create a figure #4.

4). With hands/arms raised in a figure #4 position lean back slightly for protection of the upper body/head area.

5). Time to practice! We found that when teaching sliding to young athletes, to find a small grassy hill to secure the SlideyCat Sliding Mat to and allow a little gravity and the slippery slide to work to help the athlete generate enough speed to be effective.

6). Speed is crucial to a great slide! Luckily the SlideyCat is padded!

  • The wonderful feature of the SlideyCat is that the coach can add the SlideyCat to:

    • Pitcher/Catcher Passed Ball Drills at Home Plate. Runner advancing from 3B and a quick flip and tag work

  • Coaches, never ever forget how intimidating sliding is to young athletes. In my 20+ years of coaching I have experienced hundreds of times where athletes become SlideyCats during the games. For whatever reason. I promise you this, invest in the (No) SlideyCat T-Shirts. These are an amazing reward for an athlete that had the courage to slide for his/her first time in a game. Hugely Popular! The athletes wear these t-shirts to school, practice and around. The cute SlideyCat Cat logo with the different color helmets are a huge hit.
